Anja is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators with over a decade of experience in regional and international arbitrations. Anja has been appointed by institutions including the DIFC–LCIA and DIAC) and by parties as sole arbitrator; tribunal member; Chairperson and has acted as party representative. Particular areas of arbitration expertise and interest include corporate and commercial disputes; mergers and acquisitions; family business structures; joint ventures; commercial agency and distributorship as well as real estate and construction matters. Anja always seeks to bring a commercial and practical approach to arbitration disputes to ensure an efficient and equitable process and outcome for the parties.
Anja is a German national and is bilingual in English and German. She also speaks French, Dutch and Spanish fluently. Anja holds a Postgraduate Degree in Law from the University of Law in London as well as a Bachelor of Arts BA and a Master of Arts MA in Modern and Mediaeval Languages from Cambridge University; a Master of Arts MA in European Business Management from Cranfield University; a Diploma in Financial Strategy from the Open University and a Diploma in Foundations from the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. Anja is admitted to the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (TEP) and is a Chartered Marketer in the Chartered Institute of Marketing. She is also admitted to the Chartered Institute of Linguists as a Translator.
Anja qualified as a UK solicitor after graduating and worked for over a decade at the Magic Circle UK/US City law firm HoganLovells specialising in corporate and commercial law. Anja then moved to Dubai to set up the respected Family Business practice at leading Middle Eastern law firm Al Tamimi.
For the last decade, Anja has been advising a respected local business family as in-house counsel with responsibility for all contentious and non-contentious legal affairs for the family business. She has also garnered extensive arbitration experience acting as an independent arbitrator during that time.
